and yet a wire reindeer stood
with its lights on
in the blue-dark or morning
and a row of outdoor bulbs
hung from a gutter
over the black ice of the yard
while the cab sped through the Midway streets,
past the slipped houses
by the still flown
and weather-beaten bows
away from it.
